English Grammer: Simple Present

Simple Present Tense:

 

1. Affirmative Sentences

 

For subjects "I," "you," "we," "they":

 

Formula:
 

Subject+base form of verb+rest of the sentence

 

Examples:

  • I walk to school.

  • You like pizza.

  • We play soccer.

  • They work here.

 

For third-person singular subjects "he," "she," "it":

 

Formula:
 

Subject+base form of verb(s/es)+rest of the sentence

 

Examples:

  • He walks to school.

  • She likes pizza.

  • It works well.

     

Fill-in-the-blank sentences in the Simple Present tense (affirmative), with verbs provided in brackets:

2. Negative Sentences

  • You do not like pizza.

  • You don't like pizza.

  • We do not play soccer.

  • We don't play soccer.

  • They do not work here.

  • They don't work here.

 

For third-person singular subjects "he," "she," "it":

Formula:
 

Subject+does not (doesn’t)+base form of verb + rest of the sentence

 

Examples:

  • He does not walk to school.

  • He doesn't walk to school.

  • She does not (doesn't) like pizza.

  • She does not (doesn't) like pizza.

  • It does not work well.

  • It doesn't work well.

(Who/ what/ where/ when/ why/ how)+ (do/does) + subject + base form of verb + rest of the sentence?
